The talent search is set to be held at Youth for Christ (YFC), situated at corner 12th Avenue and George Silundika Street in the city’s central business district.

Founder and co-director, Thembelani Mdlaziba, in an interview with NewsDay, said the group was focusing on growth, hence, the searching for new talent.

“We celebrated our second anniversary in December and we received many enquiries on when we were going to recruit and now we feel it is time to grow this music family and ministry. Bulawayo has a lot of young people, who deserve an opportunity on platforms like Vocal Ex,” he said.

“We are 24 members at the moment, excluding the band, and we are looking for about 12 more people to train and join our set up. We are also working towards setting up platforms of grooming our older members into solo careers.”

Mdlaziba said to be eligible for the auditions one has to be from a Christian background, aged between 16 and 35 years and have a sound vocal ability and a musical ear.

The group is the brainchild of Mdlaziba, Eric Moyo and Mkhululi Bhebhe a famed Joyous Celebration member.

The three used to sing together at church during their high school days before deciding to form a fully-fledged religious musical group – Vocal Extra- Ordinairé.

In his career, Mdlaziba has worked with former Joyous Celebration musician Avis Dlamini after moving to South Africa, where he got an opportunity to learn more about the professional gospel scene, while Bhebhe is on the books of Joyous Celebration as one of the lead singers.
