AFTER successfully hosting 12 straight editions of the Changamire Hip-Hop Festival, founder and host Tafadzwa Jackson will this weekend honour those who enriched the festival at an awards ceremony scheduled for Club 1 + 1 in Harare.

Jackson – popularly known as Zimboy – told NewsDay that the Changamire Hip-Hop awards were meant to honour artistes who made the festival a success.

“The inaugural festival has been a success. We never thought the festival would be that big and attract such national attention.We will this Saturday honour the hard workers who made the festival a success every month,” he said.

He revealed that the winners did not necessarily represent the best in local Hip-Hop but those that took part during the fiesta.

“The winners on Saturday are the ones who shone during the festivals. We are not saying they represent Zimbabwe’s best. We are just honouring our artistes who were outstanding,” said Jackson.

T Gonz, Briss Mbada, Cal_vin, Guluva 7 and Noble Styles were nominated in the Best Male Artist category while Miss Kiddy, Blacperl, VerseTyle, Sheila K Young and GeezyFoxie were nominated in the best Female category.

Songs Zvenyu (T Gonz featuring Baller), Harare Hucci (Briss Mbada), Mastandards (P Mulla featuring Anonzi Xndrand Ishy X) and Daza to Topola (Guluva 7 featuring Cal_vin) will battle for honours in the Song of the Year category.

There will be a tussle involving Yung Stan, Klassiq, Anonzi Xndr, Tash Mwanawamai and The Hitmen in the Best Producer category while the Best Beat Box category will see Probeats, Marvin Halo, Phylo, Subxero and Raheem Beats gunning for the top spot.

Enthralling dancers Mixxy, Sean Ace, Almost Twins, Real Flex and Drifta and Devante will seek to outdo each other on the dance floor in the Best Dance category while Mc Chita, Mox, Mariachi, Emmity Smooth and K.V.G will be seeking honours in the Best Radio DJ category.

Hip Hop outfits Ishy X and Foster, Dolla Sign Musik, Studio Felonies, Team Bhoo and Team Mumabahwe will fight it out in the Best Hip Hop Group category as Zim Hip Hop Report, The Fixx — Zi-FM, Zaangoma, Creative Ideas and McPotar.com will seek to outdo each other in the Brand Supporting Changamire category.

There will also be a People’s Choice category in which Probeats, Miss Kiddy, Bry Three Sixty, T Gonz, Mzoe 7, Cal_vin, Briss Mbada, Noble Styles, P.O.Y and Schingy have been nominated.
