Reign in life

Continuing our study of the rudiments of Christianity, we want to look at what life really is. God created mankind with free will, which included the ability to choose to disobey Him.

He didn’t create him as a robot, but as a free moral agent with freedom to choose.

The fall of man came when man chose to disobey God. Communion and fellowship with God was cut.

The result and effects of this disobedience passed through all mankind.

In the Garden of Eden, man was free to eat of every tree except of the tree of knowledge of good and evil.

Genesis 2:16-17 records, “[16] And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: [17] But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.”

The Bible clearly states that eating of the tree of knowledge of good and evil would result in man dying.

Genesis 3 records the fall of man which came after eating of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

I will assume that you believe God to be true and the Bible to be true record of God’s mind.

If so, then man really died after eating of the tree of knowledge of good and evil.

This death was spiritual. After the day Adam and Eve disobeyed they remained physically on earth.

If God said they would surely die in the very day they ate of the tree of knowledge of good and evil but physically existed thereafter, what then died? This shows that there’s life beyond the physical eye.

The disobedience which is sin resulted in spiritual death. The sin also caused physical death. Adam and Eve later physically died.

Sin also gave rise to sickness. It’s the fallen nature of man that gave room to illnesses and diseases. The root of sickness is sin.

Read this correctly. It’s sin that came through Adam that gave rise to sickness. It’s not your individual sins, but the fallen nature of mankind.

Suffering, pain, hardship, poverty and other ills also followed up.

It’s good to know the consequences of sin and the fallen nature of man. Is there a remedy?

The Bible says in Romans 5:12 and 17, “[12] Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned: [17] For if by one man’s offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.)”

So, from Adam, everyone is dead, including the great people that came after.

It’s recorded here that death passed upon all man. Life came back by Jesus Christ.

Outside Jesus Christ there’s no life, it’s just existence, mere survival.

The effects of Adam’s sin falls upon everyone who is born into the world. You’re prone to sickness without your effort. There’s nothing special you have to do to be poor or face problems. You simply have to come into this world.

You are born into it and you cannot plan your physical birth.

However you can plan your spiritual birth. When this life enters you through confessing Jesus, you’re automatically eligible for the benefits of this new life.

However you may fail to realise the benefits due to ignorance.

We shall pursue the subject of this new life in greater detail in the coming installments. This new life is free and comes as a gift from God. You don’t work for it.

Ephesians 2:1 and 8-9 clarifies, “[1] And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins; [8] For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: [9] Not of works, lest any man should boast.”

The entrance of Jesus Christ in you quickens (makes alive) you. It’s this life through which you’re able to reign in this world.

Receive this free gift of life and reign. You’re going somewhere.
