Councillors met yesterday in a special full council meeting, where they accepted Muzawazi’s resignation.

In a letter seen by NewsDay, Muzawazi said he quit his job to allow council to attend to issues affecting the local authority.

“I, hereby, submit my resignation from the post of town clerk with immediate effect, and proceed to early retirement. It is my desire to make this separation as peaceful as possible in order to allow the council time to quickly attend to issues of importance to the survival of this city,’’ part of the resignation letter read.

Mutare workers have not been paid for the past 18 months under Muzawazi’s leadership.

The audit report revealed massive underhand dealings, including irregular sale of stands in a development that could have cost the city millions of dollars.

Mutare mayor, Tatenda Nhamarare yesterday said they were expecting more managers to resign.

“Muzawazi resigned on Tuesday morning and we met today to deliberate over the matter in a special full council meeting and Stenard Mapurisa is the now acting town clerk, and we are also expecting more resignations,’’ he said.

Muzawazi was under pressure to resign from various stakeholders in the city.
