Muchabaiwa, popularly known as Mama Fillo in music circles, is now working as the chairperson of Divine Mercy Humanitarian Trust, which was set up to lend a helping hand to the girl child.

She told NewsDay that although several musicians had approached her to manage their affairs, she has decided to pursue her passion for assisting disadvantaged girls.

“Joining Divine Mercy Humanitarian Trust is the realisation of my dream to care for orphaned and underprivileged children. My desire to care for the less fortunate started way back as a young girl, even when I was still with Jah Prayzah, we would create time to spend and interact with children, donating groceries at Karoi Children’s Home,” Muchabaiwa said.

Muchabaiwa, Jah Prayzah’s manager of nine years, said she has since made a commitment to accommodate two teenagers, a boy and a girl, from Hurungwe Children’s Home, formerly Karoi Children’s Home, during the school holidays at her Budiriro home.

The trust’s co-founder, Maria Tsingano, said she was happy to be working with Muchabaiwa, whom she described as a loving woman, with a passion to uplift the girl child.

“As Divine Mercy Humanitarian Trust, we seek to empower underprivileged members of the society strengthening efforts to build self-reliance and to bring them to the mainstream society and the coming of Muchabaiwa on board is also a major boost to the trust, as she is a dedicated and committed person when it comes to issues to do with the girl child,” Tsingano said.
