Last July, Kasukuwere ordered the council to recruit substantive heads of departments within 10 days after it emerged the municipality was manned by only two substantive heads.

Town clerk, Daniel Matawu has since been suspended on allegations of presiding over a corrupt council and of taking long to implement the minister’s directive.

Last week, council officials interviewed candidates for the posts of health service director and engineering director.

Chairperson of the commission running the affairs at council, Tsunga Mhangami, told NewsDay the local authority would soon conduct interviews for the post of housing director.

During his visit to the city early this month, Kasukuwere ordered Mhangami’s team to move with speed in recruiting substantive heads of departments.

“We can’t continue having acting directors running council affairs. It is unacceptable,” Kasukuwere said.
