MTC acting branch manager, Otilia Mswelanto confirmed the break-in yesterday, but said no suspects had been arrested yet.

“We were robbed of $2 363 on December 22 and we reported the matter to the police and so far no arrests have been made,’’ she said.

“It was a holiday and normally we keep our money in our safes, but unfortunately we were unlucky because we did not bank our money on the day. I think the police are doing their investigations,’’ she said, although some employees, who declined to be named, claimed the alleged theft was an inside job.

“I think it was an inside job because our safes are not in the open, someone from within could have taken the money,’’ the source said.

Both MTC branch manager, Solomon Kadzora and Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Tavhiringwa Kakohwa were unreachable for comment.
