PRIMARY and Secondary Education minister Lazarus Dokora has revealed that there is a marked improvement in the “A” Level pass rate for 2015 whose results are ready for collection today.

Addressing journalists in Harare yesterday, Dokora said female candidates performed much better than their male counterparts.
“Of the 32 550 school candidates who wrote two or more subjects, 28 510 passed, giving a school pass rate of 87,6%,” he said.
“Of the 7 962 private candidates who wrote two or more subjects, 5 069 passed, giving a 63,7% pass rate. In 2014, the pass rate for school candidates was 82,6%, while that of private candidates was 57,6%. There was an increase in the pass rate of 5% and 6,1% respectively.”
This year’s pass rate for male candidates is 85,4%, while that of female candidates is 90,5%, an improvement from last year’s 80% for males and 86,5% for females.
There was also an improvement in the pass rate for subjects such as mathematics, chemistry, biology and geography.
Dokora said there was need to streamline non-formal education and formal education and work out options of utilising facilities like laboratories.
