The Sport and Recreation Commission and Zifa have sent messages of condolences to the Rosen family.

The PSL yesterday described him as “one of the pillars of the development of the top-flight league since 2000”.

“The Premier Soccer League is shocked and deeply saddened by the passing away of Eric Rosen. We would like to extend our most sincere condolences to Elizabeth Rosen and family. May the Lord be with you and comfort you and your family during this time of grief. Rosen was one of the pillars of the development of the Premier Soccer League since 2000. He was a dedicated and passionate football leader and a fearless administrator, who stood for what he believed was best for the game of football,” the PSL condolence message read.

“He produced talented players such as Clement Matawu, Prince Matore, Marlon Jani and Musa Mguni, to mention just a few. Rosen and his wife, Elizabeth, developed a professional football club that was a role model to many clubs. The Rosens, together with Simeon Jamanda, took the development of football to the city of Mutare.

“The PSL attracted a number of sponsors during the time Rosen was an executive member of the committee responsible for marketing. Eric, together with his colleagues, worked tirelessly to bring SuperSport International to cover the PSL matches.”

Rosen, who founded Motor Action Football Club from the ashes of Blackpool in 2000, died in Harare at Borrowdale Trauma Centre on Sunday morning.

He was 69.

He is survived by his wife Elizabeth and three children.

Burial arrangements were not clear yesterday, but Jamanda, who worked closely with him at Motor Action, said Rosen was likely to be buried on Thursday, as his mother, who lives in Zambia, was yet to arrive.

The family is also waiting for the arrival of his sister from Italy.
