MISS Universities Zimbabwe 2013-2014, Valerie Chingonzo, has left the country for Beijing, China, where she will participate in the 27th edition of the Miss Universities World.

The beauty queen told NewsDay ahead of her departure that she was confident of bringing the crown home.

“I will not be intimidated just because I am on a world stage as I have an equal chance of scooping the first position,” she said.

“My patriotism and determination will make me stand out and I am definitely expecting to come back with the crown. Zimbabwe’s time is now.”

The beauty with brains winner said this was the biggest-ever contest she was partaking of in her modelling career.

The current Miss Universities Zimbabwe, Tafadzwa Jaricha, will represent the country at the 28th edition of the global pageant next year.

This year’s global event is featuring 70 countries from all over the world and the crowning moment will be witnessed on January 28.The finals will be aired live on Chinese Central Television.

Chingonzo was crowned Miss Universities Zimbabwe at Ochi City in Harare in 2013.

The Women’s University of Africa student bagged the top prize ahead of 25 others who were vying for the title.

Miss Universities beauty pageant continues to grow and has made positive progress in improving the quality of models since its inception in 2010.

Top-flight models like Rumbidzai Mudzengerere and Lisa Morgan are some of the successful products from the pageant who have managed to hold their own on international platforms.
