While Zimbabwe are still to tie down any opponent for a friendly match, which will be a dress rehearsal for the Chan competition, Zambia have set up camp in South Africa as they are ready for the tournament designed exclusively for home-based players.

Zambia are in the same group with Zimbabwe and the neighbouring countries face off in the opening group match on January 19.

Chipolopolo are also scheduled to fine-tune their squad with a date against Mamelodi Sundowns Junior team tomorrow.

Uganda, who are also Zimbabwe’s Group D opponents, were set to take on Gabon in their preparatory match yesterday, while west African side Mali, also in the same group, were set to play Angola.

Uganda will then take on Cameroon on Wednesday, while hosts Rwanda were set to face the Democratic Republic of Congo yesterday.
The Chan tournament in Rwanda runs from January 16 to February 7.

Initially, the Warriors had been scheduled to play Cameroon, but the match was postponed as Zimbabwe had broken camp after coach Kalisto Pasuwa had been fired by his employers before being reinstated.

Efforts to engage Mozambique seem to have hit a brickwall.

Zimbabwe reached the semi-finals at the last edition of the tournament held in South Africa.

Ian Gorowa was in charge of that team, while Pasuwa was assistant.

The Warriors are expected to leave for Rwanda on Friday.
