Enock Mubengwa, who resides in Komboniyatsva along Chiremba Road in Epworth, was arrested on December 1 this year after being linked to a series of robbery cases.

His accomplices, Parirayi Mubengwa, Fradrick Mubengwa and Tawanda Maregerere are still at large.

According to State papers, on October 14 this year, the gang stormed a Zaoga Church building in Sunningdale at midnight, where they used an iron bar to assault a security guard, Fungai Gweshe, stole his cellphone and money, before tying him with shoelaces.

The gang, it is alleged, broke into the church’s office, stealing cash boxes containing $632 and R1 489 and sound mixers, before vanishing into the night.

The State alleges, on November 11, the gang, while in the company of one Clever, also still at large, proceeded to Hatfield Apostolic Faith Mission Church, where they attacked Last Chisveto, who was manning the premises and walked away with his cellphone and $1.

On the same day, they also allegedly attacked the church’s caretaker, Secret Mazhata, and stole his property valued at $190. While at the same premises, the gang allegedly attacked Lucia Mazhata and stole $77 from her and fled.

On November 22, the gang again pounced at Zaoga Church in Hatfield, where they allegedly attacked Trevor Muchemwa, a security guard, and walked away with church’s property valued at $4 913, R8 119 and 894 pulas.

On the same night, the gang proceeded to the church’s podium, where they found Monica Masaraure sleeping and robbed her of $170. While at the same premises, they came across Musodzi Mudapakati, whom they also attacked and robbed before disappearing from the scene.

Last week, Mubengwa filed his application at the High Court seeking bail, but the matter could not be entertained, as the hearing date had not yet been set down.

In his bail application, Mubengwa claimed that he was severely assaulted by detectives at Waterfalls Police Station.
