The expo was targeted primarily at the hotel’s business partners in Bulawayo, while creating a marketing platform for the various business sectors in the city and their product offerings.

It was part of the RTG’ inspirations series, which is a discussion and event platform set to stimulate engagement and activity in constructive socio-economic, topical and contemporary issues affecting people’s daily lives.

“The approach is to provide edutainment, where visitors to the expo are guaranteed to learn something about the companies exhibiting,” Bulawayo Rainbow Hotel general manager, Fungai Mutseyekwa said.

At least 18 organisations, which include banks, universities, manufacturing and distribution companies exhibited at the event that will become an annual event at the hotel.

Bulawayo Rainbow Hotel has been involved in various corporate social responsibility projects in support of sustainable development and the empowerment of those less fortunate.

RTG is seeking to boost additional revenue through e-commerce platforms.

Recently, it revealed that its online channels will contribute 3% to total e-commerce revenue and the target was close to $1 million.

The first of its e-commerce platforms was the launch of the RTG online auction website in June, that has since managed to achieve revenue of $21 000 at a 53% activity revenue conversion rate on an upward trajectory.

The group is trying to tap into recent statistics that show that Zimbabwe has an Internet penetration rate of 47%, with Internet subscriptions totalling 6,1 million as at June 2015.
