The alleged incident happened on Sunday.

The suspects – David, Elija and Chakanetsa Mahungo, Cephas Chakanetsa and Julian Mupunzani – are alleged to have dragged the now-deceased to the family graveyard, where they took turns to assault him with knobkerries, switches and open hands, accusing him of being a wizard and causing the death of some family members.

They then lit a fire and burnt his body.

Magistrate Lazarus Murendo remanded them in custody to December 21 this year, advising them to seek bail at the High Court. Tatenda Mukatera prosecuted the matter.
