The finals are set for next April.

The colourful event attracted teen models from Harare, Chitungwiza, Gweru and Nyanga.

Pageant director, Lesley Gurajena said the auditions were the first stage before the major event.

He said in the January auditions, they will be looking for 16 more beauties to make them 20 for the finals.

“The auditions are our first port of call since we are looking for 20 girls that will battle it out at the main event in April 2016,” Gurajena said.

He said the beauty pageant sought to expose Zimbabwean talent to the world and build world class models.

“Miss Teen Zimbabwe is a platform to expose talented young girls to the world, as they represent Zimbabwe out there. A good example is our first queen, Nadine Hahn, who was taken by a corporate company because of her confidence,” Gurajena said.

“She also won the Miss Black Opal pageant.”

Gurajena urged corporates to sponsor local models.

“Corporate sponsorship is very important and it’s about time we have sponsorship,” he said.

“There are a lot of beautiful girls in Zimbabwe but due to the bad picture portrayed by the media on modelling, a lot of parents tend to lock up their children.”

One of the judges, Rose Chigwida, a grooming agent, said they were looking for someone who is going to represent Zimbabwe at international level.

“From the girls that came through, we managed to find a lot of amazing girls and it’s going to be interesting to be working with the girl because that’s where the queen is coming from. We are looking for world standards.”

Miss Teen Zimbabwe is also going to work with other modelling agents on grooming models from the grass roots.

“We will be working with modelling agents to groom models from as early as Grade 7. This will enables them have great confidence,” she said.
