The pageant which made its return after a two-year sabbatical courtesy of Devine Assignments and Size4 Modelling Agency, was held under the theme Celebrating Summer with Glitz and Glamour.

Speaking to NewsDay soon after her crowning moment, an overwhelmed Mungofa said it was God’s grace and support from her family and friends that she won at such a prestigious pageant.

“I am joyful that prayer and hard work has yielded results for me. Being crowned Miss Summer Zimbabwe is something special that will go a long way in my modelling career,” Mungofa said.

Vimbai Mungofa (22) Queen, Natasha Basopa (22) and Wayne Vambe (22) first and second princes respectively

“For aspiring models, I just want to urge them to believe in themselves, follow their dreams and work hard to achieve the desired results, regardless of what some people would say about the modeling fratenity.”

Meanwhile, Mabvuku-based Natasha Basopa (22) and Wayne Vambe (22) were crowned first and second princess respectively, while Tyra Muropa (22) was named Miss Personality.

In search of the queen, the top eight that included Isabel Dube, Charity Chaukira, Prisca Thole, Melinda Chibukira and Charity Chaukira went for the question and answer session and were later trimmed to top five, which then provided the overall winners.

The first segment of the pageant saw the models taking to the ramp dressed in summer wear, while in the second and third segments, they were dressed in ethnic revealing and evening wear respectively.

Contrary to what the pageant spokesperson, Wilbert Rukato had said ahead of the grand finale, that 10 male models would compete in a side-contest dubbed Mr Cool 2015, it did not materialise.

Apart from the modelling extravaganza, revellers were only entertained by urban groover Taurai Mandebvu, of the Better Man fame, as Trevor Dongo did not turn up amid claims that he had a double booking.

The pageant was founded as Miss Summer Queen in Harare in November 1998, as a partnership between Size4 and Samwil Promotions, before being rebranded this year to Miss Summer Zimbabwe.
