The State had accused Musonza of making derogatory remarks about an incident where President Robert Mugabe tumbled at Harare International Airport early this year.

It was the State case that on October 29 this year, Musonza met a Zanu PF activist wearing a T-shirt emblazoned with Mugabe’s portrait and made “insulting” comments about the veteran politician’s health.

The matter was struck from the roll after the State applied for further postponement of the trial, saying the Prosecutor-General’s office had not given it the green light for prosecution.

“I think you should have got the permission or the go-ahead with the case first before bringing this case to court,” Nduna said. Kudzai Choga represented Musonza. More than 100 people, mostly opposition activists and human rights defenders, have been arrested for allegedly denigrating Mugabe in the past decade with a few being convicted of the charge.
