Biton Kamisa will serve an effective six months behind bars after three months were suspended on condition of good behaviour.

Kamisa had initially pleaded not guilty to the assault charge when he appeared before Mbare magistrate Kudzai Zihove.

The court heard that on October 23, Kamisa was driving along Burombo Road near Machipisa in Highfield, when he stopped in the middle of the road blocking Vincent Chikore’s vehicle, which was behind.

The court further heard that when Chikore tried to overtake Kamisa, the latter began to move his vehicle. Chikore eventually managed to overtake and sped off. However, when the two drivers approached a traffic light at OK Machipisa, Kamisa disembarked from his kombi armed with a spanner and hit Chikore on his hands. After the attack, Kamisa left his kombi, boarded a bus and fled from the scene, but was later arrested by the police. Yvonne Gurira appeared for the State.
