Trust founder, Plot Mhako, told NewsDay yesterday that the initiative was meant to expose and nurture young talent.

“Dancers will compete in the krump, new school hip-hop and break-dance categories for the $250 prize money and bragging rights to be the most unshakable dancer,” he said.

“In the past, solo dancers have had limited opportunities to grow their art and this will be the ultimate platform.”

Over 20 dancers drawn from around the country have so far registered for the contest, Mhako said, adding that registration is $5 per dancer.

The participants will battle it out in three rounds, with the judges picking the winner.

“At the event, dancers will present a one-and-half minute piece each in their respective category and that will be followed by an elimination round, then battles adding that renowned dancers Tendai Guzha of Dance First International, Christyles Fire and Keith Mudakureva will be the judges at the event,” he said.

Established in 2007, Jibilika Dance Trust promotes dance as a tool for youth development, recreation and engagement of young people in positive social actions through popular youth culture. The organisation runs several projects including the annual Jibilika Dance Festival.
