Champions Insurance managing director Nathan Chikono revealed the development on Saturday on the sidelines of the company’s Scratch and Win competition grand draw in the capital, that the partnership has seen the short-term insurer seconding staff to Malawi and Zambia.

“We are doing big things in the region after we signed a deal to be technical partners to Malawi’s Prime Insurance Company and also got a contract to partner with a Zambian government controlled insurance company,” Chikono said.

“We are providing product development, systems management, technical support and management consultancy to our partners. This has seen us second some of our staff to these countries.”

Champions Insurance has registered more than 1 200% in premiums in the past decade and has grown to be in the top ten short-term insurers in Zimbabwe in relation to premiums.

“We have registered phenomenal growth in the past decade, from an annual turnover of $800 000 to more than $10 million and in the process breaking into the top 10 of the insurance market in terms of premiums,” Chikono said.

The company’s growth was made easier by the partnership it made with Zimpost, thereby immediately becoming accessible at nearly 300 Post Offices across the country.

Besides offering the traditional motor and property insurance, Champions has created new products such as aviation insurance, inbound and outbound travel insurance and schemes specifically for schools and churches.

Meanwhile, 25 lucky clients who bought insurance valued at $30 or more walked away with prizes which included 5,5 KVA diesel generators, 42” LED LG television sets and Samsung tablets.
