Rising Chimurenga musician, Jairos Chabvonga collaborated with dancehall star Soul Jah Love to release a single titled Simbiso.

The three minutes 19 seconds single, which opens with Soul Jah Love’s charming freestyles’ punchlines: “Television thing, Soul Jah Love, Chibabababa conquering, Chibabababa ndati Jairosi Chabvonga vaudze magitare tinobva tatonga hasi masanga itarenda redu rakabva kudenga”, is a love track about a long distance relationship..

Speaking to NewsDay, the Ngorimba Afro-fusion front man, Chabvonga said when he composed the track, which he said is a Christmas present for his Chimurenga fans and dancehall enthusiasts, he felt it needed a dancehall taste and Soul Jah Love was the best to add the sparkle.

“I have always admired Soul Jah Love’s talent as a lyrically-gifted musician and I thought he would be the best person to give the song Simbiso a dancehall feel and I did not hesitate to engage him when we met on a plane on our way from South Africa.

“Soul Jah Love is from a younger generation of musicians and it is good to share experiences with someone upcoming with a new approach to music. We exchanged notes and I also learnt something from his music.”

The Chitungwiza-bred Chabvonga said music has been part of him and it is his own way of communicating to masses about social issues through rhythm, hence the decision to collaborate with several artistes from different genres.
