“Mutizwa will have a four-day trial at Bidvest Wits and he will be back in the country on Friday,” he said. “They would have loved to assess him for a longer period, but he has other commitments that are equally important back home.”

Mutizwa is expected back home to take part in Highlanders’ Easycall Cup semi-final encounter against perennial rivals Dynamos at Barbourfields this weekend.

The Warriors striker is this year’s winner of the Golden Boot Award after scoring 14 goals during the just-ended season.

Mahachi expressed optimism that the Bosso striker would impress in South Africa, despite the very short trial period.

“Look at his [Mutizwa’s] conversion rate, it is very excellent. He scored 14 goals in 17 starts and I believe he would have hit more than 20 goals had he played more games,” he said.

Two other South African clubs are also understood to be interested in the Highlanders striker, who was selected among the country’s top players yesterday.

Mutizwa is a product the Highlanders juniors and recently renewed his contract with the Bulawayo giants.

Mahachi said it was in the best interests of the player to commit to Highlanders.

“It is important that he stays at Highlanders if he is playing in the local league because moving to another local team could impede his progress. It’s not all about monetary gains, but it’s all about building for the future,” he said.

Efforts to get a comment from Highlanders chief executive officer, Ndumiso Gumede yesterday were fruitless, as he was unreachable on his mobile phone.
