MDC-T leader Morgan Tsvangirai will tonight host the annual “presidential dinner” with insiders saying is meant to raise funds for party activities ahead of the 2018 elections.

Opposition party officials and other invited guests will have to fork out at least $500 to sit at the top table with Tsvangirai and his wife Elizabeth, where 10 chairs have been reserved.
Others will pay $100 to participate and have the opportunity to dance with Tsvangirai, according to MDC-T spokesperson Obert Gutu. The dinner will take place at a popular restaurant in Harare Gardens. Guests who will occupy the VVIP chairs will pay $100 per head to sit on the 130 chairs reserved for the section where they will be in the company of the party’s standing committee, while at least 210 chairs have been reserved for the VIP section where guests are being asked to part with $50 per head.
“It’s just an end-of-year dinner where party members will have the opportunity to meet and mingle with president Morgan Tsvangirai and Elizabeth Tsvangirai in a relaxed environment,” Gutu said.
“It’s a social get-together where people will mix and mingle as well as dine and dance. The festive season is upon us. This has been a very challenging year for everyone as the economy continues to implode, but then this is an occasion to de-stress and have a little bit of fun.”
Observers said the dinner will be a boost for Tsvangirai and the MDC-T coffers if it does not flop, as the party has been struggling financially due to donor fatigue.
