LOCAL artistes Simba Tagz and award-winning club wheel spinner-cum-musician Ray Dizz have been provided with an opportunity to showcase their talent at the inaugural African Music Concert on November 21 at the Expo Centre in Nasrec, Johannesburg, South Africa.

The potentially explosive concert that is a joint effort by South Africa’s The VAS Company and Nigeria’s Mcomm Solutions and Services Limited is aimed at parading Africa’s best young performing artistes, celebrating African unity and oneness saying no to xenophobia.

Simba Tagz said it was an honour to be chosen to perform at a concert of such magnitude and getting the chance to sing for his Johannesburg fans.

“I am happy to be offered such a platform which is an honour to me from African Music Concert organisers. I look forward to represent my country by delivering a solid set on stage,” Simba Tagz said.

Speaking through his manager Philip Chard, DJ Ray Dizz said he was happy that people were starting to recognise Zimbabwean talent.

“I am ecstatic for my brother Tagz and I am happy to be part of this memorable concert which shows that people are starting to take notice of Zimbabwean artistes. We are already working on our set, it will be a high energy mix of Simba’s music and my DJ skills,” he said.

At the concert, Simba Tagz, born Simbarashe Tagwireyi, and popular DJ Ray Dizz, real name Rayhaan Jassat, are set to share the stage with 18 of the continent’s biggest acts.

Some of the artistes to share the stage with the duo powerhouses of Zimbabwean music are American-born Nigerian recording artiste Davido, Nigerian singers WizKid and reggae-dancehall singer Burna Boy, South African musicians Cassper Nyovest and Aka, R&B and house singer Bucie, house music group Uhuru and Zambian artiste Roberto among others from Tanzania, Mozambique, Ghana, Cameroon and Angola.

The duo is doing great in their separate projects on the local showbiz scene.

This year Simba Tagz toured Cyprus and worked with big names like Burna Boy, WizKid and Sarz while DJ RayDizz had the opportunity to perform in Las Vegas, South Africa and Zambia. Ray Dizz is proving to be one of the most-sought-after local DJs holding residencies at some of Harare’s popular night clubs.

During his stay in the United Kingdom, the wheel spinner once played at The Ministry of Sound in London before he went on to collaborate with several UK producers and artistes. Locally, he has worked with renowned wheel spinners among them DJ Rax and DJ Rawse.

In 2011, he was selected to open up for American artiste Sean Kingston during his Harare show. More accolades then followed as he was selected to be the first local DJ to feature on DStv’s popular reality show, Big Brother Africa Amplified 2012.
