The play, which premiered in Norway, will be shown on the local stage courtesy of Rooftop Promotions and Theatre Nova.

Guzha said the theatre piece would be used as a trial run in the refurbished venue pending its finalisation.

“The staging of Guinea Fowl marks the return of productions at the new Theatre in the Park and an early Christmas present to all our fans who have endured the long wait for the new space,” Guzha said.

“For theatre lovers, we are having this trial run, which will mark the return of Theatre in the Park, and more collaboration with regional and international productions houses.”

He said they had also secured three more plays for the first half of their 2016 calendar, adding that actress and director, Simone Thiis will conduct an “acting through action” workshop. During the workshop, actress and puppeteer, Ragni Halle will teach participants how to use paper and other objects as part of puppet theatre.

Thiis, who is a director with Theatre Nova, said Guinea Fowl was important to them because it had a Zimbabwean flair, as it was a collaboration done with Rooftop Promotions.

“We have had a great collaboration and it feels important to show this play to the people of Zimbabwe because I believe it says something about the country’s history,” she said.

The synopsis of the play is inspired by the life and work of British novelist, poet and playwright, Doris Lessing. On stage, Lessing’s children appear as hand-puppets and Mother Emily as a toothless bundle of nerves, while her lover (Teddy Blue) is a sex toy.
