The matter came to light yesterday when Sibongile Mhlanga (44) appeared before Mbare magistrate Bianca Makwande facing assault charges. Mhlanga pleaded not guilty to the charge and was remanded out of custody to November 26.

The court heard that some time a fortnight ago, Grace Mapuranga was walking along the boundary between her house and Mhlanga’s house. The State alleges that when Mhlanga saw Mapuranga walking along the boundary, she accused her of walking through her yard.

The court further heard that before Mapuranga could respond to Mhlanga’s accusations, the latter became hostile and grabbed Mapuranga by the neck.

The State further alleges that Mhlanga then took a piece of wire and used it to strangle Mapuranga. Mhlanga is said to have let go of Mapuranga after she realised that the latter was now struggling to breathe. Mapuranga then made a police report and investigations led to Mhlanga’s arrest.

Mapuranga produced a medical affidavit as evidence of the injuries she sustained.

Blessing Kajese appeared for the State.
