Mutambirwa (29) was remanded in custody to today for sentencing, when he appeared before magistrate Nomsa Sabarauta.

The State, led by Richard Makonde, presented that on Sunday last week and in the afternoon, Mutambirwa was caught by police officers at the corner of Robert Mugabe Road and Cameron Street while in the company of a police officer identified as Kelvin Chiwamba soliciting for bribes.

The court heard, Chiwamba, who is based in Chinhoyi, had asked Mutambirwa to bring him his uniform into the central business district (CBD).

On arrival, Mutambirwa is said to have taken long to locate Chiwamba and he decided to wear the uniform. The court heard, when Chiwamba eventually arrived, the pair agreed to start patrolling the CBD with the aim of soliciting for cash from drivers.

Luck ran out for the two when they were arrested by fellow police officers who asked them where they were stationed.

Chiwamba managed to identify himself while Mutambirwa conceded he was not a police officer and had been given the uniform by his colleague.

The officers then took the duo to Harare Central Police Station, but Chiwamba is said to have jumped off the vehicle and landed on his head and was apprehended again.

Chiwamba will be charged separately.
