Kanyedze (31) was not asked to plead when she appeared before magistrate Reward Kwenda and was remanded in custody to today for bail ruling.

The court heard on Monday last week, during the mathematics exam, one student from Budiriro 2 High School was caught with answers which tallied with the mathematics question paper, which he was sitting for.

The court further heard the school head then reported the issue at Budiriro Police Station, leading to the student’s arrest.

It is alleged upon being interviewed, the pupil implicated many other accomplices, who included Kanyedze’s husband, Newman Ndoro.

The court heard when Ndoro was arrested and questioned by police, he implicated his wife, leading to her arrest.

According to the State, Ndoro also told the police his wife was once employed at Fidelity Printers in Msasa, Harare.

Investigations by police revealed Kanyenze’s contract with Fidelity Printers was terminated on October 23 this year, and according to the State, Kanyedze was at work at the time the Ordinary Level question papers were being printed.

The investigating officer in the case told the court it was possible for Kanyedze to have gained access to the paper as she was employed in the packaging department.

The State opposed bail and proposed Kanyedze’s further detention, arguing she was likely to interfere with witnesses as her alleged accomplices stayed close to her place of residence.

The State also indicated Kanyedze, if granted bail, would destroy any other examination papers she might have in her possession. Fanuel Madanhire appeared for the State.
