The businessman and politician is vying to replace the deposed Cuthbert Dube as Zifa president in an election that will be held on December 5.

Chiyangwa’s election agent Eddie Chivero yesterday told NewsDay Sport that they had invited all the 58 councillors to attend the event which will be held at a local hotel.

He also said a high-profile personality from Asia would grace the occasion.

Chiyangwa will be presenting what he calls the “The Twelve Points of Light” where he is pledging, among other things, restoration of constitutional democracy, accountability and transparency in the administration of the affairs of Zifa and the recruitment of a crack cadre of professional and dedicated members of staff and also the expunging of the legacy debt ($6 million) through the creation of innovative national and international fund-raising initiatives.

The flamboyant businessman is one of the four candidates bidding to replace Dube in the election on December 5.

Former Harare City chairman Leslie Gwindi, football legend James Takavada and former Zifa boss Trevor Carelse Juul are also contestants.

Dube and his entire board’s mandate were revoked last month by the councillors, who accused them of maladministration. Chivero said Chiyangwa had invited the councillors so that he could apprise them of the plans he would put into action if elected.

“We have invited all the councillors to come and hear for themselves what he will do to breathe life, restore confidence and integrity as well as to bring big smiles back into Zimbabwe’s football,” Chivero said.

Chiyangwa claims he has the backing of more than 50 of the 58 councillors who will cast their ballots in the election.

Takavada has also released his campaign manifesto in which he pledges to transform Zifa’s reputation and guarantee development of grassroots football.

Gwindi and Carelse Juul have not yet publicised their manifestos.

Two candidates, Omega Sibanda and Lincoln Mutasa, will run for vice-president, while 10 candidates will contest for four available posts in the board.
