Bangladesh 241 for 9 (Kayes 76, Panyangara 3-41) beat Zimbabwe 183 (Chigumbura 47, Mustafizur 3-33) by 58 runs MIRPUR, Bangladesh — Opening cricket batsman Imrul Kayes scored 76 as Bangladesh beat Zimbabwe by 58 runs in the second one-day international (ODI) in Mirpur to win the three-match series with one game to spare.
Kayes, who only came into the side due to the absence of Shakib Al Hassan on paternity leave, played the anchor role to perfection as the Tigers scored 241 for nine in their 50 overs.
The left-handed Kayes struck six fours and four sixes and as he accumulated his runs off 89 balls as the home team sealed their fifth ODI series victory in a row.
The only other batsman who notched up any significant scores were Nasir Hossain, with 41, while Sabbir Rahman hit 33 off 40 balls.
Zimbabwe’s Sean Williams
Seamer Tinashe Panyangara was the pick of a solid performance by the Zimbabwe bowlers with figures of three for 41 in 10 overs, while Taurai Muzarabani and Graeme Cremer snaffled two wickets each.
The African side though were never in the chase with the bat, collapsing to just 183 all out in 43.2 overs which was only a slight improvement on the 128 all out in the first match of the series.
Bangladesh’s left-arm paceman Mustafizur Rahman took three for 33 in eight overs, while seamer Al-Amin Hossain and spinner Nasir took two wickets each.
