The gig will become one of the several traditional “shutdown” events held towards the end of the year.

The outfit will be supported by Zambian star Roberto of the Amarula fame, who makes his debut on Zimbabwean stage, while seasoned performer Oliver Mtukudzi will also perform at the event.

Man of the moment, Jah Prayzah and the evergreen, Alexio Kawara complete the line-up of performers at the gig.

Speaking to NewsDay yesterday Simmad promotions boss, Simbarashe Madziwa said they had taken heed of public calls to another dose of Mafikizolo.

“We are promising a memorable event and early Christmas present to all our patrons. We are also pleased to host the 2015 edition of the Harare Lockdown,” Madziwa, porpularly known Simmad, said.

“This year’s edition features Mafikizolo, due to a huge popular demand, and Roberto. They will be ably supported by Zimbabwe’s biggest acts, Tuku and Jah Prayzah, as well as Alexio.”

Mafikizolo made an appearance last year in December and another early this year.

Both shows were well attended, with the December 2014 edition being oversubscribed resulting in hundreds of revellers being locked out.

While it may appear to be an overdose of the same act for Zimbabwe since the group has performed several times, the choice may point to a crisis that Zimbabwean showbiz is in — that of lack of diversity and growth, as the same names such as Tuku and Jah Prayzah keep appearing on most posters of mainstream musical gigs.

Other artistes are either struggling to remain relevant, too small or are grappling with content droughts, as the country’s music consumer is largely driven by release of new content.

“Revellers will this time have to fork out $15 and $30 for the general entrance and VIP, respectively.
