There is no doubt that Africa needs a second revolution as said by the African Union chairman and President of the Republic of Zimbabwe Robert Mugabe at the last G20 summit in Turkey, a revolution that will see dictators pave way for democrats. That is long overdue, Mr Chairman.

The revolution Africa needs, however,is different from what Mugabe prescribed.The AU chair is still stuck in the Cold War era. The world has moved on.The assertion that Africa is crying for the need to control its natural resources is just a figment of His Excellency’s imagination.
Take, for example, in Zimbabwe’s case. Almost 98% of arable land is in the hands of indigenous people, but our agriculture is defunct. So who is to blame for our agricultural failure? The mining of minerals by parastatals has not improved our national coffers neither has it developed the communities in which they operate.
Nationalisation of most companies has been a disaster. Isn’t it that control of our resources has not benefited the ordinary man?
All the above problems obtaining in Zimbabwe are a mirror image of what is happening across African states. Such problems also buttress the need for a revolution that will do away with dictatorship that has proliferated over Africa.
As I write, Rwandan President Paul Kagame is on course to stay in power into the 2030s if he wins a coming referendum seeking a constitutional amendment to allow him to remain in office after completing his two terms in 2017. We have an incumbent President in Burundi, Pierre Nkurunziza, treading along the same path.

The African political cancer is of leadership that is only concerned with power and greed. Greedy leadership has incubated corruption and nepotism and that is where Africa needs a second revolution, Mr Chairman.
An African revolution that can get the continent on its feet is one that ushers in politicians who truly represent their people. An honest leadership, not power-hungry crooks who abuse their constitutional mandate. A leadership that respects international law.
A proper second revolution can see African countries holding free and fair elections which produce leaders who can succeed in curbing poverty, war, terrorism, create employment, stop brain drain through emigration and improve service delivery. That is what Africa urgently needs, Mr Chairman, before you extend your begging bowl to the G20.
