Tafadzwa Mazorodze pleaded guilty to the culpable homicide charge and driving without a licence when he appeared before Mbare magistrate Stanford Mambanje yesterday.

Magistrate Mambanje postponed the case to today for sentencing.

The court heard that on September 27, Mazorodze was driving a Toyota Hiace along an unnamed road in Kuwadzana 7 when he failed to negotiate his way past the child who was playing with others by the roadside.

The State alleges that the minor sustained heard injuries and multiple fractures as a result of the accident. The minor was taken to Harare Central Hospital where she died the following day.

A post-mortem was conducted by medical practitioners and the report was produced in court as evidence. Persy Mugauri appeared for the State.

Meanwhile, another man, George Josam appeared at the same courts before magistrate Gladys Moyo facing charges of indecent assault after he fondled an 11-old-girl’s breast.

Josam pleaded not guilty to the offence and indicated that he wanted to call his witness.

According to State papers, on November 11, the minor was on her way to pay rentals at Mbare council offices when she was molested.

The State alleged that the minor had decided to pass through her friend’s home before going to the council offices.

The court heard that when the minor was leaving her friend’s house, who is also a minor, Josam, together, with an accomplice who is still at large grabbed and pushed her to the ground.

Josam then allegedly fondled the minor’s breast, while his partner was closing her mouth preventing her from shouting for help. The minor managed to escape and ran away and later made a police report leading to Josam’s arrest. Tendayi Matsikenyere appeared for the State.
