An English adage “Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned!” proved a reality for a Warren Park woman, who in a fit of rage after discovering pornographic material in her husband’s laptop, scalded the latter with boiling water which apparently spilled and killed her son.

Fortune Vutete (27) yesterday appeared at the Harare Magistrates Court charged with culpable homicide after causing the death of her son Munesuishe Travis Mironga aged six-months old.

Provincial magistrate Tendai Mahwe remanded Vutete to December 8 on $50 bail in order to allow her to bury her child before commencement of her trial.

As part of her bail conditions, she was ordered to reside at her given address, to report to Warren Park Police Station once every Friday and not to interfere with witnesses until the finalisation of the matter.

Prosecutor Sebastian Mutizirwa presented that on November 15 this year and at around 5pm Owen Mironga, the suspect’s husband, received a WhatsApp message from his wife requesting him to come home claiming he had a visitor.

At the same time, Vutete also sent another message to Mironga’s brother requesting him too to come claiming she had found a video of a naked woman in her husband’s laptop.

The State alleges Mironga and his brother drove to the house and upon arrival he requested to see the said visitor but Vutete allegedly locked herself in her bedroom saying she would not say anything to him until his brother’s wife arrived.

The State further alleges they then sent a message to Mironga’s brother’s wife while Mironga and his brother sat in the sofas in the house.

A few minutes later, it is alleged, Vutete came from the bedroom accusing her husband of taking her for a fool while heading for the stove where she picked a pot full of boiling water and poured it onto her husband.

Mironga is said to have managed to react swiftly but got burn on the right arm and left foot but the bulk of the boiling water burnt the infant that was sleeping on the same sofa.

At that moment Mironga’s sister-in-law is said to have arrived and Mironga and the baby were taken to Parirenyatwa Hospital where they were admitted but the toddler later succumbed to the burns on Sunday last week.
