Efforts to get comment from Mashonaland East police spokesperson Inspector Nobert Muzondo were fruitless, but impeccable sources told NewsDay the deceased were identified as Racheal Magasu (22), Emmanuel Magasu (2) and Catherine Mavhengera (24).

According to a witness, at around 5pm, the two adults along with the toddler, together with two other colleagues, all from the same village, had gone to a shrine.

It is said that they had sought refuge in a tent as it was raining, but were unfortunately struck by a bolt of lightning.

Their bodies were discovered by their colleagues with smoke having filled the tent.

A report was made at Suswe Police Station, who attended the scene.

Police officers waived post-mortems and the bodies of the deceased were taken to their respective villages for burial.

The incident was the third disaster to occur in Mudzi within four days that have resulted in the death of 19 people.

Last Thursday, a complex, housing 25 vendors, caught fire destroying goods worth tens of thousands of dollars, while 15 members of the Paul Mwazha-led apostolic church were killed last Friday when their vehicle was involved in a head-on collision along the Harare-Nyamapanda Road.
