The semi-finals will be held at three different venues ahead of the finals scheduled for November 20 at the City Sports Bar in Harare.

Contest organiser, David Machowa, said they have received funding from a local company after failing to stage the pageant last year due to financial bottlenecks.

“The adverts we flighted on social media resulted in the registration of 36 contestants. We were left with no choice but to conduct semi-finals so that we can have a small number for the finals,” he said.

“The (three) semi-finals will be held on three different dates and venues where 12 participants will compete at each semi-final. We have divided them into three groups and each group will produce four finalists. We are then left with 12 contestants who will join the reigning Mr Ugly, William Masvinu, to come up with 13 finalists.”

The November 13 semi-finals will be held at Prime in Ruwa and on November 14 will see other contestants fighting it out at Jongwe Corner in Hatfield before rounding off on November 15 at Zebra Village in Mbare.

The pageant was initially scheduled for October 24 but was postponed to avoid clashing with visiting Jamaican reggae sensation, Busy Signal.

Masvinu, from Epworth is the reigning champion of the pageant that even drew the attention of the international showbiz and media world.

Machowa founded the pageant in 2011. The first winner was Brian Mateyazondo who won $50 as prize money. In 2012 it was won by Masvinu who walked away with $100 prize money.
