ZANU PF political commissar Saviour Kasukuwere has reportedly accepted a vote-of-no-confidence against Manicaland Women’s League chairperson, Happiness Nyakuedzwa despite claims that some of the signatures appended to her ouster were fraudulently acquired.

According to a letter seen by NewsDay dated November 5 to the acting provincial chairman, Samuel Undenge, and copied to Nyakuedzwa and First Lady Grace Mugabe, Kasukuwere acknowledged the decision made by the provincial women’s league executive in Manicaland to axe their leader, saying proper procedures had been followed.
“This letter serves to inform Manicaland province that the party has received a vote-of-no-confidence moved against Manicaland provincial chairwoman, Happiness Faith Nyakuedzwa on October 18. The party was satisfied that appropriate procedures were followed in coming up with the vote of no confidence, therefore, the national disciplinary committee will sit and deliberate on the matter,’’ read part of the letter.
Some women’s league members last month moved a vote-of-no-confidence against Nyakuedzwa, accusing her of disrespecting the First Lady, but she later turned the tables and fired those who had kicked her out of power.
With the backing of national women’s executive member and Macro-Economic Planning deputy minister Monica Mutsvangwa and Environment minister Oppah Muchinguri, Nyakuedzwa overturned her ouster, which had seen Nokuthula Matsikenyere briefly assuming the chairperson’s position.
During a provincial co-ordinating committee (PCC) meeting held in Mutare on Sunday, some women’s league members said they would soon make a police report over their signatures.

Nyakuedzwa backers, who include Mutsvangwa, have already dismissed the letter, claiming proper channels were not followed. ‘’The letter was not written to me, but it was a communication between chairman Undenge and political commissar Kasukuwere acknowledging receipt of the vote-of-no-confidence issue. Perhaps the chairman had an agenda on the matter, as something he wanted was not coming up,’’ Nyakuedzwa said.
The Zanu PF NDC is chaired by Vice-President Phelekezela Mphoko, its other members include First Lady Grace Mugabe (secretary for women’s affairs), Pupurai Togarepi (secretary for youth affairs) and Kasukuwere, the Local Government Minister.
The Zanu PF disciplinary committee has this year alone dealt with more than 100 disciplinary cases, many of which have resulted in expulsions and suspensions, after the people concerned were accused of factionalism and plotting to oust President Robert Mugabe.
