Anti-child marriages advocacy organisation, ROOTS, last week took its campaign to Shamva and held a community dialogue with traditional leadership and villagers on how local communities can assist in combating child marriages.

Hundreds of villagers, children, and child brides, and local leadership, including Chief Chiveso, attended the event.

ROOTS Director Beatrice Savadye said the campaigns were a result of the ‘urgent need to have communities are empowered reject child marriage.

“We need to urgently ensure that we address household poverty, provide alternatives that increase life choices and options for girls, support girls education b align marriage laws to the constitution,” she said.

ROOTS is youth-led initiative working to promote socio economic justice for young people and currently running the Not Ripe for Marriage campaign on ending child marriages on Zimbabwe
