FORMER broadcaster and losing MDC-T parliamentary candidate Eric Knight has demanded that President Robert Mugabe steps down saying that the 91-year-old ruler has failed.

In an open letter to Mugabe, the former ZBC radio and television presenter, who lost the bid to represent Mbare constituency in 2013, alleged that the Zanu PF strongman was being misled by his cronies who pretended to love him yet they were pursuing personal interests.

“You see this devil we call the economic crunch when it bites, it doesn’t look at what party card you hold, it bites all, Zanu PF, Zapu or MDC,” Knight wrote.

“I am not doing this because I am away from home. No, it is simply because meeting you on a face-to-face basis to discuss Zimbabwe is almost impractical, owing to the 100-man Durawall manned by the guys in suits and dark glasses who ‘love’ protecting and shielding you even from the same people who you are President to.”

Knight added:“They (ministers) pretend to like you yet they fear you Sir. Vanokutyai kwete kukudai (They fear you, not love you) and you don’t need me to know there is a difference between those two,” he said.

“Do you (want to be loved or feared) (father)? Especially those who are quick to defend you even where you can defend yourself, those who are fond of being your spokespersons. They will pretend to like Amai (Grace) Mugabe and they will donate cash to her projects. I want to believe that your Excellency you cannot sell your soul in exchange of three pieces of silver. They are busy spewing nonsensical messages on Twitter and social media on your behalf but remember, when a dog bites someone you don’t look for the dog, you look for the owner.”

Knight said Mugabe had failed to run the economy and now he had written a follow-up to his initial letter.
