BUFFALOES suffered a morale sapping 1-0 defeat against Hwange in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match played at Sakubva Stadium yesterday.

The army side is in danger of getting relegated to Division One after yet another defeat.

It was Innocent Mucheneka who scored the important goal for the home side in the 28th minute and the home side failed to come back from that setback.

The visitors’ assistant coach Mebelo Njekwa who is standing for his coach Nation Dube who is with the Warriors in Lesotho said his players played according to the plan.

“We played according to the plan. We knew that they were going to depend on long balls, but we kept on playing short balls, but we managed to win and we are very happy indeed,’’ he said.

Buffaloes’ assistant coach Joseph Takaringofa who was also in charge for the army side as Saul Chaminuka is on national duty with the Warriors said his side remains confident of avoiding the chop.

“We were under pressure and we rushed on most of our decisions. We are going to continue on relegation and we are very confident that we are going to survive the dreaded chop,” he said

Hwange who always enjoy success at Sakubva Stadium absorbed early Buffaloes pressure and in the 23rd minute the visitors’ goalkeeper Tafadzwa Mawaya pushed wide Roy Mwenga’s shot for a corner kick.

Buffaloes were dominant as they created numerous chances in the first half but made too many mistakes.

Despise the home side dominating the first half it was the visitors who surged ahead in the 28th minute through a fine goal from Innocent Mucheneka who connected home a fine cross from Farai Vimisai’s low cross.

In the 59th minute Mawaya saved a fine low drive from veteran striker Jacob Muzokomba from close range to keep his side with a slender lead.

Buffaloes created few scoring opportunities, but they could not keep their composure in front of the goal.
