The defending league champions sit third in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League table, six points behind log leaders Chicken Inn, and two points behind second-placed FC Platinum, making this a must-win match for the Tonderai Ndiraya-coached side, if they are to have any chance of retaining the league title.

With only five games to go before the season ends, Ndiraya this week conceded that his team was out of the title race, although victory would certainly change that perception.

Chicken Inn will only be involved on Wednesday when they face off with FC Platinum in a top-of-the-table clash, a match that can potentially swing the tide in Dynamos’ favour.

Dynamos travel to Mabvuku heavily hamstrung with at least six key men missing from the squad.

Team captain Augustine Mbara, Obey Mwerahari, Cliff Sekete, Artwel Mukandi are all out with injuries, while Rodreck Mutuma and Blessing Moyo are away on national duty with the Warriors. Left-back Ocean Mushure is out suspended.

Beneficiaries to the huge absentees could be Ghanaian Erick Opoku and young Brett Amidu, who Ndiraya said had been drafted into the final 18 squad.

The positive news for Dynamos is the return to full fitness of Kudzai Nyakasaka, while Stephen Alimenda, who missed the team’s goalless draw against Harare City, a fortnight ago, has also returned.

The match takes on equal, if not greater, importance for Flame Lily, as the Prisons Services-owned side find themselves in the heart of the relegation battle, three points from the bottom side.

In an attempt to avoid the chop, the club this week demoted coach Backlyfield Chivenga to the role of development coach and promoted assistant coach Takesure Chiragwi.

The PSL returnees have won just four matches this season, lost 11 and drawn 10. They now find themselves in the struggle to stay up. With the game against FC Platinum looming next and Chicken Inn on the final day of the season, in a match the Gamecocks may need to win in order to clinch the title, Flame Lily will be desperate to get a result against Dynamos.
