Sibanda deputised the dismissed Cuthbert Dube, but the two later fell out, leading to the suspension of the former. Chiyangwa is the only one to have declared his candidature for the top post and yesterday, he revealed that Sibanda would be his “running partner”.

The two had a meeting yesterday in Bulawayo, where they were discussing their strategy after which they announced their new partnership.

Each one will have to win their own category, however, and it is not clear at this point who their challengers will be.

Yesterday, Chiyangwa said he was going to partner credible and experienced football administrators in his bid to replace Dube.

“Sibanda is my running partner now. I am partnering experienced and credible people and I think me and him at the top would be a good combination which will help Zimbabwean football,” Chiyangwa said.

“Sibanda has been there before, so I think with what I bring and the knowledge he possesses, it would be a good team.”

Sibanda, who was booted out in June, claims he fell victim for questioning the figures presented pertaining to the debt the association owed supposedly to Dube.

At the time, the association claimed it owed Dube almost $900 000.

Officially, Sibanda was suspended for attending a meeting by councillors on May 16, which was deemed to have been illegal.

The meeting was the first attempt at dismissing Dube, but it was not successful.

This time, Sibanda will attempt to find a way back with his new relationship with Chiyangwa, who is emerging as the favourite for the post.

There had been speculation Caps United president Farai Jere would run for the post, but he has since thrown his weight behind Chiyangwa.

Leslie Gwindi has been coy about his interest in the post, as has been Castle Lager Premier Soccer League chairman Twine Phiri and Trevor Carelse Juul who have been touted as possible contestants.
