PROPERTY mogul Phillip Chiyangwa yesterday said he was still weighing his options after several people approached and urged him to stand for the Zifa presidency to replace Cuthbert Dube, who was booted out of office last Saturday over allegations of maladministration.

BY NUNURAI JENA

Chiyangwa said he would announce his decision over the issue in the next few days.

“You don’t need to plunge into things without calculating. At the moment, I’m consulting across the board. Yes, I have been approached by quite a number of people, but I need to consult wide and far,” he said.

Chiyangwa said music and football were close to his heart.

Other names that have already been thrown around for the soccer governing body’s top post include Premier Soccer League chairman Twine Phiri, Trevor David Juul, who lost to Dube in the last election, Dube’s vice-president Omega Sibanda and veteran journalist Charles Mabika.

The elections to fill the vacant hot seat have been scheduled for December 5.

  1. Please Mr Sir Business Mogul or whatever they might call you, i personally think you are the person Zimbabwe is looking for in that post. You are the same as Mr Dube and most probably your reign will be far much worse

    • If football was on on its deathbed with Dube, with this loudmouthed ‘mogul’ it will die a natural death.

    • There are only two options to weigh, Mr Mogul – either you are in or you are out. You don’t know anything about football, so stay out.

    • I’ve made $62,000 so far this year w0rking 0nline and I’m a full time student. I’m using an 0nline business opportunity I heard about and I’ve made such great m0ney. It’s really user friendly and I’m just so happy that I found out about it. Here’s what I’ve been doing…

  2. Football will die if we make the same mistake when we gave Dube the Zifa presidency. Philip is basically a businessman and not a football person. Where is Paul Gundani? Where is Sunday Chidzambwa? Where are those who are running PSL and First Division teams. These should step forward and save our game. Businessmen are not necessarily football people.

  3. From as far back as I can remember, starting with Leo Mugabe, Khan, Nyatanga, etc, no one has left the Zifa presidency on a happy note. They all have left under difficult circumstances. My ignorance tells me the presidency may not be the source of the problems at Zifa. We probably need to look elsewhere…that said, I personally think that Chiyangwa is the wrong man to lead Zifa. Newsday, please stop playing PR for anyone. I sincerely hope that voters will not be influenced by money. I rest my case

  4. i have always advocated for people with love of this beatiful game at heart like Peter Ndlovu. now i see there is charles mabika i think he can do not all those business men and politians like leo mugabe and phillip chiyangwa to cuthbert dube to…..u name it

  5. I will stop to be a soccer fan the day Chiyangwa leads ZIFA. Please leave our beautiful game alone there are capable people already the Gundanis, the Ndholus, the Mucherahowas all those can form a strong ZIFA no thugs again in ZIFA.

  6. Mr Chiyangwa siyanai nazvo izvi hamuzvigone. You failed to run your own companies. Failed to pay your own workers. Look at Crittal Hope, Conte Shoes, so on, so on. That would be the worst decision you would have ever made in your whole life.

  7. can i ask Mr Philip Chiyangwa.when you say i was approached by quite number of people WHO ARE THIS PEOPLE IN PARTICULAR who can approach people like you.just concerned soccer fan

    • Nobody approached this man. It’s all made up lies to massage his huge ego. Horrible and revolting Zanoid apparatchik.

  8. The advantage of having a rich guy is he can sooner help zifa out of its financial crisis… as opposed to charles mabika and such who would try and fill their pockets first. So I say Chiyangwa for president, Charles Mabika vice.

    • If thts your administrative philosophy then your wife is in big trouble…ZIFA can clear off its own debts only if it gets someone with the capabilities…n the corporate world will definitely be knocking at ZIFA ‘s doors to support…thts wat we want. If you were following Dude’s issue closely..jus after being booted out…he was saying I will recover all my monies…so mr man, think like a man and act like one

  9. We need to put this position a person with experience in soccer. Former footballers can do better than these people who boast because they are rich. We need Bruce Groblar . Peter Ndhlovu, John Phiri, Ephraim Chahwanda,Alois Bunjira and many other former players. Charles Mabika is also my favourite.

  10. I beg to differ with most of you. I once proposed that on this platform. chiyangwa is the best candidate at the moment. we need someone like him to rebrand our game and to bring flamboyance which has always been associated with Chiyangwa. chiyangwa is a sports person and an innovative, shrewd businessman who can take our game to greater heights. remember he was once associated with boxing, only that its a minority sport here in Zimbabwe. imagine what he can do with football. chiyangwa already is a brand ambassador of many brands especially in the automotive industry. so yes Mr Chiyangwa go for it. Am 100percent behind you. U are what we need in leadership positions. I rest my case

  12. This thief Chiyangwa wants to steal everything. But now we all know he is not related to Matibili. Kikikikikikikikikikikikikikik……..

  15. Chiyangwa said he would announce his decision over the issue in the next few days.

“You don’t need to plunge into things without calculating. At the moment, I’m consulting across the board. Yes, I have been approached by quite a number of people, but I need to consult wide and far,” he said.

Yes, he is still “calculating” how much he can make from ZIFA and he is “consulting across the board”, including those vakambodyawo neZIFA. When you find a more honest man, let me know please?

  16. i personnally, a rich somebody have higher chances safe guarding the few dollars that ZIFA has, he might not get attempted by those few moneys and even fork out of his pocket mari chaidzo kuti ZIFA ibve ku negative kwairi. Chiyangwa must be give opportunity. Also Mabika might not be having the wealth, but he is rich in mind, he knows what soccer is all about.

  17. I’ll admit to doing all the wrongs I’ve not done if it means Mr. Chiyangwa will agree not to consider being ZIFA president. No thank you Sir!

  18. @wayne we never learn zveshuwa…………ku ZIFA kune mari no one could want to waste their time doing things for nothing esp in ZW, fungai mari inobva ku FIFA for development and gate takings. Ini hangu ndinoti NO to these business clowns, they dont have football @ heart.Let them sort their businesses first… aChiyangwa anotenga maBentley nemari yose
