The books, which were launched at a local upmarket restaurant, are titled Shona Chieftainships, The Mutasa Manyika Dynasty and The Anti-Portuguese Chimurenga.

The event also marked the official launch of Mutapa Publishing House.

The guest of honour, Rural Development, Preservation and Promotion of Culture and Heritage minister Abednico Ncube, applauded Chigwedere for his bold attempt to articulate history, citing that this would help Zimbabweans understand their heritage.

“His (Chigwedere) contributions are critical to us understanding where we are through understanding where we are from,” Ncube said.

“It is important who tells that history (because) as our story cannot continually be told by those who colonised us if we are to build a proud nation.”

He said that such books would help even in the enforcement and revival of culture through his ministry which needs that information.

Ncube also revealed that his newly-formed ministry was currently undertaking a national culture policy review which is at an advanced stage.

“My ministry and I cannot achieve the above without cutting-edge resources in the form of well-researched positions from cultural and heritage practitioners in the country,” he said.

Chigwedere, who is the current headman of the Mubaiwa area in Hwedza, is a renowned historian.
