A DARING 40-year-old cattle rustler was early this week hauled before Nyanga magistrate Ignatio Mhene, where he faced charges of stealing nine beasts from different villagers in Madziwa, Nyanga.

BY STAFF REPORTER The accused, Joseph Muwirimi from Chief Makoni area, pleaded not guilty to the charges, but was, however, convicted on Thursday. He will be sentenced on Monday.

Charges against Muwirimi are that on July 21, he went to a grazing in Madziwa, where he stole nine beasts from different owners.

In one of the cases where he stole from Courage Madyauta, it is the State’s case that the complainant left 51 cattle unattended in the morning before Muwirimi drove them away.

At sunset when Madyauta came to take his cattle home for penning, he realised that five were missing and he failed to locate them .

On July 22 at around 7pm, he received information that police at Bende base had recovered nine cattle from the accused which he was failing to account for.

The complainant managed to identify three of his beasts at the police base.

Two other complaints who lost their cattle in the same fashion came to the police base and managed to identify their cattle as well. Kelvin Mufute prosecuted.
