Folk stories are usually associated with myth, mystery, occult and lies, but Cuthbert Dube’s reign at Zifa is one that deserves recognition by way of erecting a monument inscribed only with calls of regretting why it took the man so long to give others a chance.

Cuthbert-Dube

The time is now to brush aside memories of his comical yet horrendous reign that broke all records for the wrong reasons; now is the time to put our heads together and know the correct statistics of the distance we are going to cover and at what rate. Whoever is going to succeed Dube has a colossal task to overcome for the benefit of soccer development.

When Dube came into power, he promised us heaven with his flowery language on the pretext that he was a prominent Harare businessman. He was the only Zifa boss who drew up a mandate that compelled him from attending soccer matches in the country, but rather he spiritedly fought to be issued with a visa to fly to Canada for the Women’s World Cup showcase. Our prayers were answered and his application was rejected.

If financial maladministration is going to be the order of the day, the successor will follow Dube in the same drain of shame. The incoming boss would be blessed in that it is the same time an energetic Minister of Sport has been appointed.

Their combined efforts would surely be a blessing towards the improvement of our beloved game.

So, Zimbabweans, let us join hands in this post-Dube era and help revive soccer by forming a vibrant, corruption-free, eagle-eyed soccer supporters’ association, one that draws up constructive proposals for presentation to Zifa.
