AMHVoices:Grace, stop inciting violence

AMH Voices
PLEASE allow me to express my disgust at First Lady Grace Mugabe’s utterances urging the people of Mashonaland Central to rise and chase away all opposition party members and declaring the province a one-party State.

PLEASE allow me to express my disgust at First Lady Grace Mugabe’s utterances urging the people of Mashonaland Central to rise and chase away all opposition party members and declaring the province a one-party State. She also warned war veterans, who have been vocal against the way things are now being run in their party, Zanu PF, telling them that the disciplinary arm of the party would deal with them regardless of being distinguished liberation war fighters.

I do not agree with Grace at all that people should be chased away when they hold different views from what her party Zanu PF wants. If at all her party still stands for the people, it is her duty and that of others who are pushing her to educate those they believe are holding different views to theirs so that they too will start seeing things their way. By urging her party’s supporters to chase away opposition supporters from Mashonaland Central province, she is actually inciting violence on people who were living peacefully and harmoniously together.

The Constitution of this beautiful nation, which is our supreme law, gives every citizen the right to choose who to associate and assemble with wherever one will be located, as long as it’s within the boundaries of the State of Zimbabwe.

As Zimbabweans, we have gone past that stage where one will come and influence our thinking and convert us into violent citizens. History has taught many of us that violence does not pay and it is us the people who will suffer the effects of such illegal behaviour in the end.

We have witnessed some of our dear brothers and sisters being sent to prison after engaging and reacting to calls similar to the one Grace made in Mashonaland Central. But when the real time comes, the police always descend heavily on perpetrators and no single person from the party will come and defend its supporters as they will be trying to protect its image, forgetting that for them to meet their objectives, these same people who will be incarcerated would have played a big part.

It is very wrong of you, Dr Grace, to advocate that when you should be preaching peace, love and stability among your party members and Zimbabweans at large.

Please, Grace, do not get the distinguished liberation war fighters wrong. They were there in the bush when it happened and they felt the heat out there during that unforgettable period and, to me, it is their right again to say whatever they want as enshrined in our supreme law that every citizen has the right to freedom of speech or opinion. Dr Grace, please, do not mistake them for your husband and others like Oppah Muchinguri, who are sitting pretty enjoying the fruits and sweat of fellow comrades as if they fought gallantly alone. Let them say it when they feel things are no longer the same and if you are a good mother as you always claim to be, you should be finding ways to resolve their issues than intimidating and threatening them with party disciplinary hearings.

Thank you again, Grace, for bringing in the ever-blundering Vice-President Phelekezela Mphoko with you to Mashonaland Central. And this time the bumbling Vice-President confirmed to the whole nation that you are in charge and heir apparent to your ageing husband President Robert Mugabe. At least he confirmed that when Mugabe is not there, you represent him, not Mphoko or Mnangagwa as the VPs. What a complete circus! Thank you very much for revealing to us Zimbabweans that our tax money is being wasted here.
