The research showed that almost half of Zimbabwe’s adult population would vote for Mugabe and his Zanu PF party were elections to be held tomorrow although they fear him.

Tsvangirai’s spokesperson Luke Tamborinyoka said revelations that “90%” feared to criticise Mugabe vindicated MDC-T’s calls for implementation of reforms before elections are held.

“It has shown the fear factor. If people have so much fear, they speak what keeps them safe. The fear factor is so strong in Zimbabwean politics,” Tamborinyoka said.

“This is why we are insisting that there should be reforms first before talking of elections in this country. It is fear that has won in this survey.”

However, the Welshman Ncube-led MDC dismissed the MPOI report as “silly, misleading and mischievous trash which should not be taken seriously by any serious minded Zimbabwean”.

“The only true poll we will take seriously is one carried out under a fair and level electoral playing field after the Zanu PF government has implemented the electoral reforms,” MDC spokesperson Kurauone Chihwayi said.

Meanwhile, MDC-T spokesperson Obert Gutu yesterday said the late party deputy national organising secretary and Member of Parliament for Nkulumane Thamsanqa Mahlangu, will be buried at Lady Stanley Cemetery in Bulawayo tomorrow.

“The funeral proceedings will commence at 8am on that day. For any further clarification, kindly liase with the family spokesperson, Mr.Gift Sango, on mobile number + 263 716 569 160,” Gutu said.
