The Highlanders executive is unmoved by calls from club benefactor Tshinga Dube to resign on the back of the team’s poor form which has seen the former Premier Soccer League champions drawn into a relegation scrap.

In an open letter, dated October 2, Dube, who is also MP for Makokoba, blamed the Highlanders leadership for the club’s dismal performance saying: “The administrators of the team certainly must accept the blame and do the most honourable thing in given circumstance, which is, leaving the others to try.”
At a Press conference yesterday, club chief executive officer Ndumiso Gumede said the constitution had provision for members to air the grievances and the Highlanders board of trustees and the executive committee had agreed not react to Dube’s media sentiments.
“We would like to make one comment with regard to something that appeared in the papers yesterday [Wednesday]. At our meeting between the board and the executive, we agreed that we will not react to the statement made by our benefactor [Dube], but just to put across that he must be one of the very few people who understands that Highlanders prides itself in its governance issues. There are a very few clubs that operate as we do. We follow our constitution,” Gumede said.
Bosso lie on position 10 on the log table and recently fired coach Bongani Mafu and his assistants following a string of poor results, bringing in former player Amini Soma-Phiri and Cosmas “Tsano” Zulu to try and rescue the situation.
But the two have not done any better in three matches, losing to Harare City and Caps United and only beating struggling Flame Lily in the three games they have been in charge.
In his correspondence, Dube called for an emergency meeting to resolve the perceived leadership crisis at Highlanders.

At Highlanders’ annual general meeting in January, the long-time Bosso benefactor suggested the club should have consulted extensively when they engaged Mafu as head coach saying a foreign gaffer would have been the best for the Bulawayo giants.
Dube said he had reserved his Sunninghill house in anticipation of a foreign coach coming only to learn that Bosso had appointed Mafu.
