Speaking at the programme launch in Madzivire area in Chivi South on Saturday, the Zanu PF councillor and property developer said the idea to channel resources towards construction of Chebvumbi Secondary School came about after pupils complained of the long distances they travelled to the nearest school.

Zivhu said villagers would provide labour, while his company, Zimbabwe Amalgamated Housing Association would provide building material. He donated more than 600 bags of cement and pledged to complete the project in 2017.

“As a nation, we have ZimAsset and here in Chivi we have our own Village ZimAsset which we must use to transform our communities and building of this school,” Zivhu said.

“Our children must not keep on walking long distances to acquire education. With this initiative, we want to work with those who are committed in the development of Chivi district’s infrastructure. No one is going to be paid to do this work. We have to mobilise our own resources to maintain our district other than wait for government-sponsorship.”

Zivhu said, through the initiative, he was not campaigning since he has no ambitions for a parliamentary post, but was just giving back to the community that raised him.

“Some people may think I am doing this as a way of campaigning or I want to be a Member of Parliament. No, I am working towards the upliftment of Chivi villagers’ livelihoods as I understand their situation,” he said.

“Building of this school goes a long way in providing education to our children who are the future leaders. We are going to kick-start this project with building of four blocks and four houses for teachers.”

Zivhu has initiated a number of developmental projects in the district under the banner, Wezhira Ndionewo, which provides social services to underprivileged members of the community.
